More than 4,000 children have a mother incarcerated in a New York State correctional facility. . Mothers of Bedford follows five mothers through the trials and tribulations of daily life in prison with the additional pressures of attempting to parent while being an inmate. We see moments of the mundane and the magnificent from within the confines of the prison: the cells the mothers live in with their children to birthday celebrations and mother’s day--moments of joy and emotion that transcend confinement.

VOLS works with incarcerated mothers in New York State correctional facilities to promote parent-child reunification and to preserve and protect family ties. In 2013, over 20 pro bono attorneys and 15 law students assisted over 110 mothers. You can learn more about the Incarcerated Mothers Law Project here.
