State Raises SCRIE Income Limit to $50,000

April 4, 2014

Many of you may already be aware that the NY State budget that was passed earlier this week included a provision that will increase the SCRIE eligibility income limit from $29,000 to $50,000 – a rise of nearly 75 percent.  I hardly need to tell you how important this will prove to many of the seniors whom we serve.  Assuming that it receives the approval of the City Council, this change will go into effect as of July 1, 2014.

As we know, many seniors do not learn about the SCRIE benefit until well after they are eligible to apply for it, so now more than ever it is crucial to screen clients for possible eligibility for SCRIE.
