VOLS Partners with NYC Council Members to Offer Seniors Free Legal Advice

VOLS recently partnered with New York City Council Members Ben Kallos and Daniel Dromm to offer free legal advice presentations on senior citizen services through the Elderly Project in Manhattan and Queens. VOLS Elderly Project Director Alexander Ryley gave an informative overview of healthcare advance directives, powers of attorney, last wills and testaments, and burial planning to over 45 seniors on May 6, 2016 at the Stanley Isaacs Neighborhood Center in the Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan and on May 17, 2016 at the Jewish Center of Jackson Heights in Queens. During the presentations, Alex answered audience questions.

Alex also encouraged audience members to attend the Elderly Project’s walk-in clinics for any follow-up legal advice and assistance, which are held free of charge in Manhattan. Low-income seniors aged 60 and over are encouraged to discuss their legal problems with an attorney in confidence, receive advice and brief services, and, if appropriate, obtain a referral to a volunteer lawyer for representation at these clinics.
