Law Firms and Corporations

Law firms and corporate law departments interested in developing or expanding their pro bono programs should contact Sara Effron, VOLS' Associate Director, at or 347-521-5703. Even if we can't find an opportunity within one of VOLS' Projects, we'll help you connect to other organizations that meet your firm's or corporation's needs.

Our Approach

Unlike organizations in which volunteering and pro bono are in service to a particular policy agenda, at VOLS, our main purpose is to encourage, promote, and support pro bono efforts for low-income New Yorkers. "Volunteers" is the first word in our name, and all of our projects are carefully designed to provide great experiences for our volunteer lawyers, as well as excellent legal assistance for our clients. We pride ourselves on providing pro bono opportunities to firms and legal departments that will fit within each institution's culture and strengthen each institution's pro bono program. In addition to offering firms opportunities through VOLS' own projects, we have 30 years' experience in connecting firms and legal departments to pro bono opportunities at other organizations as well.

Praise for VOLS

"Many thanks for your outstanding training at Weil’s Corporate Department Retreat in New Jersey. Your program on 'Preparation and Execution of Life Planning Documents for Individuals of Limited Means' was extremely well received. It will enable our Corporate Department lawyers to engage in meaningful pro bono work, which is the goal we all share."

- Steven A. Reiss, Partner, Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP

"I worked on a pro bono unemployment benefits case through VOLS with others at my firm. [VOLS' Unemployment Project Director], our point of contact at VOLS, was extraordinarily knowledgeable and helpful, and was readily accessible... I had heard good things about working with VOLS from a colleague, and after working on the case, I can see why."
