Microenterprise Project Welcomes Two New Staff Attorneys

VOLS welcomes Senior Staff Attorney, Arthur Kats, and Staff Attorney, Shanila Ali, to lead and support the Microenterprise Project’s new program Advocacy for Commercial Tenants (ACT)! Arthur and Shanila will provide in-house representation and will facilitate pro bono legal services to low-income small businesses with commercial leasing concerns or disputes.

Arthur Kats comes to us from a boutique Brooklyn law firm where he was an Associate Attorney specializing in commercial landlord-tenant litigation and leasing transactions. Arthurhas a B.A. from Rutgers University and a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He is fluent in Russian and Spanish.

Shanila Ali comes to us from Mobilization for Justice (formerly MFY) where she was a Staff Attorney in the Foreclosure Prevention and Housing Preservation Projects. Shanila has a B.A. from Vanderbilt University, an M.B.A from the University of Texas at Arlington, and a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law. She is fluent in Urdu/ Hindi.
