VOLS is proud to announce the promotion of Kristen Belolan as Project Director for the Microenterprise Project.
Prior to joining VOLS, Kristen founded and managed her own law firm dedicated to providing affordable transactional legal services to small business owners. She helped small business owners with a wide range of matters, including commercial real estate, business formation, contracts, and buying and selling of businesses. Kristen has also worked as Corporate Counsel for a community-based healthcare organization, where she managed all legal affairs, including HIPAA and other healthcare regulations, contracts, employment, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate governance. In addition to her years of law practice, Kristen has worked as an associate real estate broker in NYC and as a business development executive for legal tech and media companies.
At VOLS, Kristen served as the Project’s Supervising Attorney in the Microenterprise Project, where she worked with a diverse range of clients on assuring their business legal needs were resolved. She has interviewed and hired new staff and interns for the project. She has also directly represented small business owners in commercial lease matters to support their ability to re-open, launch, and stay open across New York City.
Kristen said on transiting from Supervising Attorney of the Microenterprise Project to Director, “I am thrilled and honored to be serving as VOLS’s next Director of the Microenterprise Project. Along with the Project’s talented team of attorneys and other professionals, I look forward to building upon our long-standing commitment to providing superior legal services to NYC’s most vulnerable small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs.” Kristen received her B.A. from Georgetown University and her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, where she served as an editor of the Brooklyn Law Review. She has called Brooklyn her home for close to 20 years, and she is very proud to lead the team into its next chapter as they continue helping New York City small businesses receive high-caliber legal assistance in these difficult times.
We know that her years of experience in legal and business leadership roles will help Kristen to lead the VOLS Microenterprise Project to a successful future. We are honored to welcome Kristen into her new role. Please join us in saying welcome to Kristen (kbelolan@volsprobono.org).
