Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) is seeking a website design consultant to provide basic support and maintain the VOLS website, (www.volsprobono.org), on the WordPress platform.

For over 35 years, Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) has provided free, civil legal services to low-income New Yorkers including seniors, veterans, unemployed workers, immigrant youth, children and their families, mothers in prison or jail, and small business owners. VOLS’ staff of 23 works with volunteer lawyers from over 70 law firms/ companies to multiply impact, and we partner with 150+ community groups to ensure that our services are accessible and address local needs.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Vendor must be familiar with WordPress and should be familiar with the needs of similar nonprofit clients like VOLS for websites of a similar scale.
Responsibilities:
- Web Maintenance and Monitoring – The selected consultant will:
- Update core software and plugins
- Conduct security monitoring for the website
- Perform daily/weekly offsite backups
- Scan and repair broken links
- Optimize website for speed
- On-Call Troubleshooting: Provide email and phone support in case of an emergency site crashes or time-sensitive bugs.
- Reporting: The consultant will be responsible for providing:
- Monthly report and 45-minute check-in meeting to review needs, security, site performance
- Annual Site Audit and Analytics Report
- Strategy Development:
- Conduct Quarterly Strategy call with VOLS staff
- Design Support: The selected consultant may also provide up to 5 hours/month of additional design and/or WordPress development support.

- Compensation and benefits:
- Anticipated hourly rate is $55-90, depending on experience and final project scope.

Proposals may be reviewed on a rolling basis, including after March 31st if a candidate is not yet selected. Proposal materials will only be reviewed within the VOLS team as part of this RFP process. Issuance of this RFP does not commit VOLS to award a contract or pay any costs incurred in preparation of proposals responding to the RFP. VOLS welcomes interest by both independent consultants and agencies with past experience serving nonprofit clients of a similar size (~$3M annual revenues).
