Microenterprise Project Seeks Summer Law Student Intern 

Position: Microenterprise Summer Internship

Duration: Summer 2019 (10 Weeks), flexible start date

Description: Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) is seeking a law student intern for its Microenterprise Project during summer 2019. The Microenterprise Project provides free legal services to under-resourced entrepreneurs and small business owners in New York City.  We provide transactional legal services in the areas of commercial leasing, business formation, contracts, and intellectual property.  

Our intern will work closely with Project staff attorneys to assist in the daily administration of the Project, primarily in the area of commercial leasing, and will include duties such as: assisting with client intake and assessment; conducting legal research and writing assignments; maintaining grant database records; participating in program outreach activities; and other tasks as assigned by the Senior Staff Attorney. The intern may also have the opportunity to assist in developing legal workshops and written resources as well as to engage in relevant advocacy efforts to support entrepreneurs and small business owners.

Desired Qualifications:

• Rising 2nd or rising 3rd year law student;

• Full- or part-time for ten weeks;

• Interest in entrepreneurship and/or community economic  development;

• Language capacity preferred, but not required

Organization: The mission of Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) is to leverage the good will, resources and talents of New York City’s leading law firms to provide pro bono legal assistance to low income New Yorkers.
