There are two opportunities to see “Life After Life in Prison”:
“[These] powerful portraits capture life after decades in prison. Determined to convey their humanity, lawyer Sara Bennett photographed four women rebuilding their lives after long-term incarceration for murder.” (Women in the World in association with the New York Times – 10/14/2015)
Visions of Confinement – June 29th to September 10th
On June 29, 2016 at Harlem East Gallery, 2180 Third Avenue at 119th Street, there will be an opening reception from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm for a summer-long exhibition, Visions of Confinement: A Lens on Women in the United States Prison System. Life After Life in Prison – Now until July 17th
Life After Life in Prison introduces us to Carol, Evelyn, Keila and Tracy, who spent anywhere from 17-35 years in a New York State maximum security prison. They were photographed by Sara Bennett, a former criminal defense attorney, who wanted to give a face to “long-termers.” Bennett’s images offer a glimpse of the women’s dignity, patience and perseverance as they rebuild their lives in the face of societal hurdles. The exhibit is ongoing until July 17, 2016.
