La Extension Comunitaria para Adultos Mayores Update:
The VOLS Senior Law Project is excited to announce the official launch of La Extension Comunitaria para Adultos Mayores webpage! The new initiative has expanded VOLS’ outreach and services to Latinx seniors and this webpage will make our services more accessible to our Spanish speaking community members. New Resource: VOLS Guide to Voluntary Administration

Our new guide provides information for heirs of New Yorkers who passed away without a will and/or whose estate was worth less than $50,000. Handling someone’s affairs after they pass away is a difficult process to face and we hope our guide will make that easier for survivors. Click here to access more information on this resource.

NYC Veterans Law Working Group Statement

The VOLS Veterans Initiative joined other members of the New York City Veterans Law Working Group in submitting a statement to the New York State Permanent Commission on Access to Justice, advocating for the allocation of adequate legal service providers for older veterans as we transition out of the pandemic. CLE Program on September 29th: Representing Veteran in Housing Matters

Join VOLS Legal Director Peter Kempner on September 29th in a virtual CLE program: Representing Veteran in Housing Matters. This training will provide New York State attorneys the foundation needed to screen their clients for past and present military service, basic military cultural competency, and an introduction to benefits that veteran clients can receive. How to Access Our Services
In addition to providing essential life planning documents to seniors, the Elderly Project is currently remotely providing general legal advice, counsel, and referrals to seniors and their caretakers and service providers. Seniors in need of life planning documents can contact us via phone or email, or submit our intake form. Veterans in need of other legal advice can contact us via phone or email.
