“The Microenterprise Project and our attorneys believed in us and supported our efforts to build a woman-owned business at an early and critical stage. Their expertise, kindness, and patience made it easy for us to understand what was needed. They gave us the confidence that we needed to continue moving forward, to realize our vision, and build our new enterprise. We are eternally grateful.” – Omary Carerro, Entrepreneur, Tangerine Cleaning Service LLC
After 11 years in the cleaning service industry, Omary Carrero and her wife Maria Teresa Montoya knew that they had amassed enough experience and expertise to start their own cleaning service business. As a computer science student at LaGuardia Community College, Omary learned about the LaGuardia Small Business Development Center. She and Maria went to the Center for guidance in starting their business, and they were directed to the VOLS Microenterprise Project to seek free legal assistance.
After assessing the women’s legal needs, the VOLS Microenterprise Project was able to find them volunteer attorneys from one of our first-rate partner law firms, Goodwin. Their attorneys Andrew Goodman and Michelle Kim advised the women through the entire business registration process, including helping them to create and file all of the necessary documents.
“We at Goodwin were honored to be able to play a role in helping Omary and Maria establish their new business. It was rewarding for us to see the appreciation that they had for Goodwin’s counseling in launching Tangerine Cleaning. “– Andrew Goodman, Partner, Goodwin
