In January 2015, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) named the South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO) winner of this year’s Competition THRIVE – a citywide competition that identifies and funds innovative projects that support immigrant entrepreneurs. As grand prize winner, SoBRO was granted $100,000 to further develop the United Business Cooperative – a cooperative for immigrant restaurant owners in the South Bronx that was formed with the pro bono support of White & Case LLP through VOLS’ Microenterprise Project.
