On October 19, Paul, Weiss obtained a victory in an unemployment insurance case with its pro bono partner Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS). As a participant in the VOLS unemployment insurance advocacy project, the firm represents clients who have been denied unemployment insurance benefits by the New York State Department of Labor. In a written opinion, the administrative law judge overruled the initial determination of the Department of Labor, holding that our client was discharged and did not leave her job voluntarily and that our client did not make willful misrepresentations to the Department of Labor and was therefore entitled to receive unemployment benefits. Our client was represented by litigation associate Christopher R. Meyer, who was supervised by litigation partner Walter G. Ricciardi.
