Amma Woods is an accomplished nonprofit leader with over 16 years of experience in strategic program management, operational oversight, and human resources development across the arts, education, and community service sectors. Known for her expertise in streamlining organizational processes, managing multi-million-dollar budgets, and fostering community engagement, Amma is deeply committed to promoting equity and accessibility for underserved communities. She is dedicated to cultivating diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplaces while upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity.

Before joining VOLS, Amma served as the Interim Executive Director at Creative Muse, where she spearheaded strategic planning and operational enhancements, resulting in a 20% increase in community engagement. She successfully managed the organization’s $1.9 million Artist Employment Program, which created full-time employment opportunities for artists in the wake of COVID-19. Amma is highly skilled in building diverse teams, implementing DEI initiatives, and leading professional development programs. Her expertise in finance, human resources, and administrative operations aligns seamlessly with the VOLS mission to provide high-quality legal services to low-income New Yorkers. Amma’s extensive experience in strategic planning, staff development, and building stakeholder relationships, positions her to strengthen VOLS’s policies, practices, and overall organizational effectiveness.

Amma holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from The City University of New York, Medgar Evers College, and an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management from Baruch College’s Leadership Fellows New York program.
