The VOLS’ Elderly Project will provide trainings at Arnold Porter Kaye Scholer on Tuesday, October 23rd and at Morrison & Forster on Thursday, October 25th. Both of these Continuing Legal Education programs will focus on the “Preparation and Execution of Life Planning Documents for Individuals of Limited Means.” In order to get associates at these firms ready to take on cases for our Elderly Project we provide an overview of the purpose, drafting and execution of basic life planning documents including the Last Will and Testament, Durable Power of Attorney, Health Care Proxy, Living Will, and Control of Body form. The training examines why these documents are important for clients of limited means, including how they can help seniors access critical benefits such as Medicaid.
On Wednesday, October 24, the VOLS’ Immigration Project and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett are collaborating to host a legal clinic to assist New Yorkers applying to renew Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a temporary form of relief from deportation which benefits immigrants who were brought to the United States as children. While courts across the country weigh in in the future of this program, our clients are reassured they will be able to secure the opportunity to work with authorization and support themselves and their families for at least two more years.
