Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS) is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to our Board of Directors

Heather Ripley, Alston & Bird LLP 

Heather Ripley is a partner in Alston & Bird’s Federal & International Tax Group. She counsels U.S. and foreign business entities and high-net-worth individuals on tax-efficient structuring for their U.S. and cross-border investments and activities, understanding their U.S. tax and compliance obligations and risks, and rectifying noncompliance issues. Heather has also counseled various charitable and nonprofit organizations on incorporation, tax exemption applications and restrictions, and other tax issues, as well as providing volunteer income tax assistance for low-income individuals. 

Heather was identified as “One to Watch” by The Best Lawyers in America in Tax Law. She’s a frequent speaker at tax conferences and writes regularly about international tax developments. She is a vice chair of the Committee on U.S. Activities of Foreigners and Tax Treaties in the Tax Section of the American Bar Association.  

Parvin D. Moyne, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP 

Parvin Moyne is a partner at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP where she represents individuals and corporations in government investigations, white collar criminal defense matters, internal investigations and complex commercial litigation. She handles matters involving alleged violations of market manipulation, insider trading, accounting fraud, securities fraud, sanctions law, investment advisor fraud, money laundering, public corruption and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) violations. She has extensive experience conducting investigations and advising on government enforcement matters involving international jurisdictions. Prior to joining Akin Gump, Ms. Moyne spent nearly a decade as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. 

Ms. Moyne is a member of the Criminal Justice Advisory Panel of The Arc, the largest national community-based organization advocating for and with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; the New York Council of Defense Lawyers; and the Women’s White Collar Defense Association. 

Rachel M. Fritzler, Kirkland & Ellis LLP  

Rachel Fritzler is a litigation partner in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Rachel has worked on a broad range of matters representing Fortune 500 companies in the areas of securities, mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, accountants’ liabilities, and commercial disputes. 

Rachel is a two-time recipient of the Sanctuary for Families Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Advocacy, 2013 and 2017. Prior to joining Kirkland & Ellis, Rachel represented classes of African-Americans and women in litigation under the Civil Rights Act of 1964 against Jefferson County, Alabama for employment discrimination. After a trial in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, the court found for plaintiffs, holding Jefferson County in contempt for long-running violations of its consent decree, and imposing a receivership over the County’s Department of Human Resources to ensure compliance.
